John Spengler

John Spengler, a four-year letterwinner in both golf and football (as a placekicker), was the first Bowling Green State University golfer to be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame.

He earned all-league honors as a junior in golf after finishing seventh in the MAC tournament. As a freshman, he helped lead BGSU to the conference title. In his final season, Spengler led the team with a 76.1 scoring average, winning medalist honors at the Barney Francis Memorial.

Spengler became the first BGSU athlete to earn first team All-MAC honors in both football and golf in the same year. He was selected to the MAC Football first team both his junior and senior seasons. His career total of 101 extra points made is third best in the BG record book.

He was inducted to the BG Athletic Hall of Fame in 1989.
