Don Cunningham graduated from Bowling Green in 1943, and within three years embarked on a 36-year career serving the university's athletic interests in numerous capacities.

Cunningham began his professional career as BGSU's first sports information director in 1946, a position he held until 1965. Cunningham, who received his master of education from BGSU in August 1964, also served as the director of the university golf course from 1947-57, and as the Director of News and Information for the Mid-American Conference from 1957-64.
