The first assistant football coach in BG history, Paul Landis made his mark at Bowling Green as the men's basketball coach, becoming the first coach to lead the team for multiple seasons since F.G. Beyerman began the program and coached the first six years. The Oberlin College grad coached the Falcons for 17 seasons, finishing with a career record of 156-133 (.540), before the legendary Harold Anderson took over for the 1942-43 season.

A Cleveland native, Landis coached at Woodrow Wilson High School in Portsmouth, Virginia before arriving at Bowling Green. His football teams won two state championships, and he added a state title in basketball during his time at that school.

He was inducted to the BG Athletic Hall of Fame in 1966.
