An All-MAC cross country runner in 1983 and 1984, Laura Murphy also holds the BGSU indoor record in the 1000m and 1500m events. She was also part of the 3200m relay team that set records both indoors and outdoors at BG. She was also a four-time MAC champion in the 1500m from 1982-85.

She was inducted to the BG Athletic Hall of Fame in 1991.
