Over the years, nine Bowling Green hockey players have represented their respective countries in the Olympic Games, including Ken Morrow and Mark Wells, who struck gold as part of the United States’ 1980 “Miracle on Ice” squad at Lake Placid, New York.
Rob Blake has played in more Olympic Games than any other Falcon, skating for Canada in 2006, 2002 and 1998. He won a gold medal at Salt Lake City in 2002, and was named Best Defenseman in the 1998 Olympic tournament.
Greg Parks was a member of Team Canada which claimed the Silver medal in 1994. Kevin Dahl was a member of the 1992 Canadian team which also won the Silver medal.
Three former Falcons participated in the 1994 Olympics. In addition to Parks, Pierrick Maia skated for France, while goaltender Brian Stankiewicz made his second Olympic appearance with Austria (previously played in the 1988 games).
Bob Dobek and Doug Ross were the first two BG icers to participate in the Olympic Games. They assisted the United States squad to a fifth-place finish in 1976.
