Crystal Ellis Print E-mail
Crystal Ellis was Bowling Green's first African-American basketball player when he took to the floor in 1952. By the time he left BG, he had collected the 1956 Team MVP award in a season where he led the team with 197 rebounds and was named All-MAC, and captained the 1956-57 team.

After graduating in 1957, he served the Toledo community as a teacher, coach, and principal, and was the school district's first African American Deputy Superintendent and Superintendent. In 1996, the Toledo Board of Education named its professional development facility the Crystal Ellis Conference Center.

He was inducted to the BGSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 1971.
